Safe-Routes-To-School Sidewalk Clearing Operations - updated 11:30 am 4/17

With snowfall event of the April 13th-April 15th now over and the roadway clearing operations wrapping up as of April 16th, the Village of Ashwaubenon Public Works Department will now be transitioning to working on clearing the Safe-Routes-To-School sidewalks.  Due to the amount of snow involved with this past storm, the Village needed to focus all of its resources on keeping the roadways passable and that has resulted in a large volume of snow being deposited on the sides of roadways and, in turn, on the sidewalks.  Crews have started the sidewalk clearing process but it is progressing at a very slow rate and will take a number of days to complete.  The Village recognizes that property owners with sidewalk fronting their property are facing the same struggles.  We appreciate everyone’s work in clearing the sidewalks over these coming days so that children walking to school and our walking public will have access to sidewalks in the near future.

Until the sidewalks are clear, we ask our driving public to exercise extra caution when traveling through the Village.  People who normally would be using the sidewalk for their commutes may need to use the outer stretches of some roadways.  Everyone’s patience and understanding is much appreciated during the final segments of the storm clean up.

Ashwaubenon Public Works Briefing - updated 11:30 am 4/15

As the second round of this current snowfall event works its way through the area, the Village of Ashwaubenon Public Works Department wanted to send out an updated schedule of snowplowing operations for our residents and businesses.

At 1:00 AM Sunday morning (4/15), Public Works dispatched its full truck fleet to conduct the second round of plowing and salting operations on all Village streets and to also complete an initial clearing of all school facilities. This operation will last until about 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon as the crews will circle back to re-plow the main arterial roads again upon completion of their routes. Crews will then head home for a brief rest Sunday late afternoon and evening and will return Monday morning at 1:00 AM to conduct a third plowing and salting operation on all Village streets. During this time, all school facilities will be cleared again. This third snow clearing operation is anticipated to last into mid-morning of Monday.

A friendly reminder to our businesses and properties with sidewalk frontage not on the Safe Routes to School, to clear the sidewalks after this snow event has concluded. We recognize this will take some time due to the significance of this snowfall event and appreciate your efforts. The Village will be out as well starting Monday to clear the Safe Route to School sidewalks.

As stated in the previous briefing, travel will be treacherous throughout the remainder of this storm and we ask that if you need to travel to please plan for extra time to get to your destination. If possible, store a shovel in your vehicle and have a cell phone along with you in the event that you get stuck. We want to thank our residents, businesses and visitors for your patience and understanding over the next couple days as we complete the clean-up from this snow event.
