The Investigative Unit of the Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety provides investigative services to the citizens of the community.
The Captain of Investigations administers the unit and is responsible for coordinating and supervising the unit's activities. Three investigators who handle follow up investigations involving both juveniles and adults staff the Investigative Unit. It is the Investigative Unit's responsibility to identify and interview witnesses and suspects, gather evidence and to prepare cases for prosecution through municipal and circuit court. Investigators also work closely with Brown County Human Services Child Protection Unit and with the Juvenile Court Intake Unit. Investigators also serve subpoenas for the courts, process evidence, participate in countywide task force operations and supply support to the patrol division.
The Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety offers their investigative staff extensive training in the field of criminal investigations. Investigators have attended specialized investigative training in such areas as Homicide Investigation, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Investigations, Crime Scene Processing and Preservation of Evidence.
Another area that falls under the supervision of the Investigative Unit is the D.A.R.E. and School Liaison Programs. Presently two officers are assigned to the schools and work in partnership with the Ashwaubenon School District.
The Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety Investigative Unit maintains a very professional working relationship with local law enforcement agencies along with state and federal law enforcement agencies.
